Due to the Amber Heard case I've learned a lot about Borderline Personality Disorder and how there are very similar interpersonal relationship symptoms and triggers to cPTSD. I've very recently realized how I can detach from reality when I feel like my attachments are threatened. Are there people who also experience similar to a manic state without the feeling of being able to take on the world? How do you come back to reality?

@Emily55 freezing is one of my most common symptoms. if i’m already having a tough time, any little thing can make me completely freeze up. how hav u dealt w it?

disassociative episodes are parts of many neurodivergant people's lives, but disassociative episodes are also in neurotypicals (day dreaming, zoning out, coping with high stress). Flashbacks of PTSD are themselves disassociative experiances. And disassociative episodes can be part of PTSD when seemingly not triggered (usually with a trigger one has yet to recognize). If this has you thinking these episodes are more than PTSD or ADHD it might be worth exploring. Though, im not sure the treatment differs much. Coping skills, grounding skills, cbt, dbt/mindfulness are pretty much the bread and butter of disassociative episodes. It only differs when a lot when it comes to medication. You wouldn't treat disassociative episodes from ADHD with a benzo, nor would you treat an episode from occasional flashbacks with a stimulant. In my experience, meds are not the go to, nor the cure for disassociative episodes.

yes i struggle with the same! just recently, i’ve had to deal w it more than i’d like to because a traumatic event made it unmanageable. the thing i’ve found that helps me the most is grounding techniques. there’s so many based on what feels right, but i like to sit, focus on breathing, and imagine roots growing from my spine into the ground. i also try to take a minute in the shower and jus focus on the water and my breathing. any type of body movement like stretching or dancing helps to. short term fixes but they can be life savers

I detached from reality on and off no matter what. But I notice if something bad happens my first response is to “freeze”. My counsler said I have C-PTSD, I will say that boderline is similar in a lot of ways. But this does not mean you’re like Amber the spectrum is huge for both of these disorders .

@funkymonkey222 I haven’t figured out a way to deal with it. It’s like a part of me I’ve had it since I was a teenager or younger . I usually get my frustration out online after I freeze. It comes from having a very unpredictable mom.

Yes one hundred percent!!! Nowadays especially years ago I would never come back. It's really hard to deal with it.

@Julianna_Rose yeah it felt like I was so trapped in my fear that I was rationalizing my irrational patterns and would go off at a hair trigger, literally my thought process and sentence structure changed. Ive been learning about regression and hypomania, its just so wild to think Ive been doing this for years without being able to fully see what was going on clearly outside my head

I have my people to ground me. It's really hard to do it myself, especially since I just started. But having people catch you is a good start. Just don't rely on them all the time.
