Coping with Overlapping Symptoms of PTSD and BPD

Does anyone here have PTSD and BPD? How do you cope with the overlapping symptoms? Sometimes it feels like it's just all hitting me at once and it can be too much to process.

Having bpd makes me think us having more energy then others so when no one’s around I put my head phones in and sing my heart out and dance till it drains me out so I don’t feel so much

A big thing for me, is being able to go find a space where its only me and I can yell, scream, or cry and just let a bunch of emotions flow. When I can I try having my SO, a family member, or a friend be on the sideline when im done and need the physical comfort.

I think most people with BPD have PTSD as BPD is most commonly caused by childhood trauma. But yes. It is scary and uncomfortable and sometimes I just shut down for days because I never keep myself in mind and I will run myself down. I go from running myself ragged helping everyone in my life for days on end to not answering the phone because I'm sleeping for 12-18 hours because I'm completely spent and have no motivation

I felt that so hard! I do the same thing, I'll burn myself out so badly and then just shut down for about a week or more sometimes. When I was younger my family was always telling me to stop being so lazy but, now I'm realizing it was just a sign of my mental state.

While I'm not great at coping with them, what I try to think of identifying each emotion im feeling and categorizing it, from there I can better understand what I'm feeling exactly and why.

I hear ya! I feel like so many people have bpd because of ptsd. I do a full spectrum of care including medications and therapy, relying or trying to on my support system and keeping up with a good spiritual routine. Grounding techniques for me can be helpful, my favorite is naming things in the room to keep me in the moment

thank you for that! Grounding is definitely one skill I tend to struggle with so I'll have to work on that a bit!
