I've never posted anything here, I'm new to the app. my therapist has said that he thinks I probably have ptsd. how do you know if you have cptsd vs ptsd? I'm not sure where to begin, but I'm willing to answer any questions. looking back on my childhood I can recognize that things done to me were abuse. I didn't think it was at the time, and I don't blame my mother. she did her best, she just didnt always make the right choice. I also had a very abusive relationship with my first boyfriend. I have certain triggers and reactions but I don't really know if it's from him or from when I was a kid or what it's from.

@wise :) I know I didn't post this, but thank you for helping and you brought up 2 of my triggers in the examples.

the difference is PTSD is caused by a single traumatic event like a car accident, while C-PTSD is caused by a series of traumatic events like domestic violence or child abuse. PTSD triggers are usually more specific and directly related to the event, like being afraid of driving after an accident. C-PTSD triggers tend to be more vague and harder to link to one single event, like being terrified when someone raises their voice or even just someone speaking with a specific speech pattern. A "complex" medical condition usually just means there's more than one obvious symptom, i.e. simple vs complex cysts or migraines

I am in the same boat, but my doctor said Complex Ptsd. I have not a single idea or research on this condition. šŸ˜„ I hope we both get answers on this journey.

I didnā€™t think I had CPTSD either but most of mine didnā€™t come from family, it was from friends and events in my younger years. I would just keep moving fluidly with the process and look for the (I hate this term) the ā€œlittle tā€ traumas which may have meant more to your younger self which you brush off as ā€œsilly ā€œ or ā€œoverreactingā€ to your grown up self.
