I recently had a little Tower moment lmao found out my mom was super abusive, moved out of state, was homeless for a while. all very fun I'm almost certain I would have cptsd based on the abuse from both my parents, but ig it could just be ptsd my question is, when I'm finally able to see a doctor and therapist after getting back on health insurance, how do I get tested for CPTSD specifically. is there specific language I should use? specific doctors?

Most therapists should be able to assess you and diagnose or direct you to someone who can. My suggestion is to be honest when talking with a therapist and explain that this is a condition you are curious about and why. Good luck and kudos for taking the steps to get diagnosed. You’re doing a good job.

I was diagnosed with CPTSD after being screened for PTSD. My therapist mentioned that CPTSD is not actually an official diagnosis in the DSM, but most doctors will know about it and how to treat it. My understanding is that the difference between complex and regular PTSD has to do with the nature of the trauma, not so much the trauma symptoms themselves. I’m sorry that you’ve been forced into this journey. I’m wishing you the best of luck with everything 💚

There's really no "test" for PTSD/CPTSD. it's just something you need to speak with a therapist about. (If you can, find one that has experience with Trauma recovery and PTSD/CPTSD). From there, managing it is just a combination of therapy and potentially medication if it's needed.
