I had a three gland parathyroidectomy over two years ago. Since then I have been dealing with chronic severe low calcium. For the past two years I’ve had to do intravenous calcium through a port. I can’t take oral calcium because it causes severe side effects and I don’t absorb it. The doctor for mayo clinic was wanting to try Forteo, but as of right now my insurance has denied it. It’s considered investigational for hypo parathyroidism. Sometimes I don’t know if a lot of my symptoms of increased anxiety, depression, fatigue, brain fog is due to all of this, or if it’s just the depression and anxiety. I’m at a point I’ve been doing this for two years, the intravenous calcium was never supposed to be a long-term solution, and all it’s doing is keeping me out of the hospital and keeping my heart beating, I feel like I’m out of options I don’t know what to do.
