I was diagnosed with chondromalacia patella 4 years ago, but after physio, the diagnosis was changed to anterior knee pain. I had a call with my gp today and she said the condition wouldn't be causing the symptoms I am experiencing (especially as physio doesn't help). I get swelling, severe pain flare ups and difficulty walking. I often have to use crutches and painkillers to get around and struggle with stairs and slopes. my gp said I'll need to be referred to orthopedics to find cause. anyone have any ideas what it could be?

It's difficult to determine the exact cause of your symptoms without a proper examination and consultation with an orthopedic specialist. It's important to follow your GP's advice and get referred to an orthopedic doctor for further evaluation and diagnosis. They will be able to provide more insight into your condition and recommend appropriate treatment options.
