Every time I stand up from sitting for a short period of time my right hip locks up and sends a bust of pain throughout my leg.

The pain that is spreading through your leg sounds like it might be nerve pain. I'm unsure though, it's just that that would make sense. My immediate thought for advice is to see if you can relax your hip muscles, they're probably pretty tight and also try sitting in different ways. Do you for with your legs crossed? Etc
