Going through anxiety attacks in my fourth year of college. Honestly feeling like a failure cause I won’t get my diploma in the 4 years given, and the panic boost from my parents didn’t help.

I’m in year 5 and will take 6 to finish! It took me a long time to accept, but it’s not a race. There is no timeline in life. Even as friends graduate and you may be jealous of them starting their adult lives, they are jealous of you continuing to be in college! I need to remind myself every day that there is no reason that I need to graduate in 4 years. It’s better to take some extra time and be healthier. If you want to talk at all I’m here!!!

I took 5 years but it allowed me to experience so much more. You’ve got the rest of your life ahead so don’t rush this part.

Don’t listen to anyone who says it’s supposed to take 4 years. I could have finished in 2.5 years at the college I went to (but had to drop out sadly), and the earliest my friend can graduate is after 5.5 years for her program. My sister’s roommate went to college for 6.5 years. It all just depends for everyone based on major, additional minors, other interests, life events, etc. Don’t let the bogus “4 year timeline” get to you. You’re doing great at your pace, and you’ll graduate in no time :)

from someone who did everything "right" to be able to graduate early, the 4 year timeline is absolute BS. in my second year of college rn and i already know i won't finish in four years! college is the time to figure out where you're going and it's much better to take a bit longer than to rush to just do Something just so you can say you're "successful" enough. your parents want you to have a life where you can be happy, and unfortunately the four year timeline is probably the best way they know to try and measure that kind of success. i know it really sucks to put more time and money into your education but every single person i know who prioritized "not feeling like a failure" and finished in four years is someone i would not be happy being. if you have a direction to go from here, you're doing great. if you don't, there's absolutely no time limit. you're doing much better than you think. :)
