My Abusive Ex Was a Police Officer and It's Messed Up My View on Law Enforcement

We are talking about police offices and stuff in school It triggers me as my emotional abusive ex was police officer.He didn't help or protect me he scared me so bad I had to leave the relationship to protect myself.I understand not all police offices are this way but it really messed up my view on police offices.I really hate to say it but I don't know if I look at law enforcement as someone who keeps people and animals safe anymore .Here is why he abused his dog and the police company failed to see this.I feel like as soon as I tell them this is happening they will say I have no proof.I just can't see a point in talking about a system that should keep us safe if it's so flawed. I mean I thought I was going become homeless or that I wouldn't be here if I stayed with him because he would get high and drive that's not someone I would want to be a police officer .Am I wrong of feeling this way?
