neurodivergent people, what are your experiences with caffeine/alcohol. I find that caffeine gives me energy when I'm constantly masking and helps me seem more neurological. I also have been told that I don't get drunk when I definitely do, but I just seem more neurological when I've had too much to drink. I don't get drunk often, but I drink a lot of caffeine every day to help me manage, but have been warned about my heart if I carry on. what else is there that I can do/use for the same effect without coming close to a heart attack again?

@Muffen91 thanks, I definitely going to try drinking tea and see how it goes

I also don’t “seem” as drunk as I am usually. Part of this is my inherited naturally high tolerance, but I believe it is also partially due to constant unconscious masking.

I would say tea. It has a similar effect as energy drinks, but without the crashing and it's better for you. As for the alcohol, I'd say stop altogether. I've been sober now for a bit over 10 1/2 years now and I feel so much better without it. Also, try to stay away from red dye in things especially. Everything including caffeine needs to be in moderation. I know that it can be tough to do at times, but I can tell you that you'll feel better.

I'm addicted to caffeine in a way that I withdraw without it, but it doesn't actually do that much for me

Caffeine makes me really tired I tend to nap after! And alcohol I’m not sure I barely drink but I feel pretty normal when I have been “drunk” not even sure if I have been drunk because of it but I lose the ability to mask well because of it and act a bit dumb at times, which is why I don’t like drinking

Monitor your heart, keep note of it. If it feels like your heart is straining or your blood pressure is a smidge too out of range or heart rate too high, take note of how much you've drank and the effects. Find your baseline "too much" and use that to find a sweet spot of "not too crazy heart" + caffienated sufficiently

@DodoWaddle I say taking zero precautions myself and an unholy amount of caffeine to satisfy my brain
