I’ve been in denial about having an eating disorder for a while. I finally saw a counselor today and while we didn’t define what exactly I have, I am now in a treatment program for eating disorders. My first appointment for that is Monday. I have a lot of chronic conditions and kinda know how to handle them now but this is so new and I feel like I have no idea how to cope. If anyone has any advice for how you combat disordered eating I would really appreciate it! (I struggle to eat, I’m lucky if I get in one small meal) all thoughts welcome and greatly appreciated <3

@nochlessmonster thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I’m still learning what to say and how to say it so I appreciate you taking the time to explain that to me! I’m worried about treatment for that reason. I’m overweight, and dieting is what got me here. Thankfully the counselor I met with today was very validating, I hope they continue to be! Thank you again for your help!

that sounds really promising and like they understand what an eating disorder is beyond the typical 'you aren't underweight you can't have an ed' I'm so pleased for you. I know it will be hard but I really hope you the best and that you may recover well :)

I know this isn't advice and I'm sorry I really hope your treatment goes well I'm really sorry you are struggling with this but 60% of eating disorders are binge eating disorders making it the most common, then bulimia, 30% and anorexia 10% (all approximately) and I know when you are in denial it's much harder to say anorexia than eating disorder but eating disorder doesn't mean restrictive necessarily so even restrictive eating disorder is better. I've not been in treatment but I know a few who have and depending on your quality of treatment it can be really really tough (more tough than it already is) because services focus all on your weight and act like you are all better as soon as you aren't underweight but I really hope that you try your hardest to engage with your team and your treatment. Good luck. You've got this.
