I’m having a really hard time finding the motivation to take care of myself. For a while I was doing really well- going to the gym, being active, eating healthy, etc. Then, I had a bit of breakdown over the various sad things that I usually try to avoid thinking about, and it’s like something switched mentally. Lately it’s like i’ve just been living on autopilot. I’ve had a feeling of emptiness. Go to work, eat, sleep, go to bed. I feel very disappointed in myself and I know what I should do, but in the moment I find it hard to care.

i relate deeply to the "something switched mentally" thing. its like im an entirely different person, with an entirely different mind, when something triggers an episode of anxiety or depression. but its just that - an episode. i promise it doesnt last forever, even if it feels like it. honestly, dont even try to force yourself out of it - i think you can organically return to a happy state. as long as youre taking decent care of yourself in the meantime, be patient and eventually you'll get tired of being tired. maybe tomorrow you'll see or hear something that rekindles your motivation, or the next day! just feel it out, really

I’m in the same boat. My therapist suggested having a little coin jar or token counter for every self-care task I do and then reward myself once I met a threshold. It’s not a permanent solution but it helps reestablish a routine
