I’ve recently been diagnosed with SVT, after months of what was assumed to be panic disorder (which I knew it wasn’t). I suddenly will have episodes of 200BPM (just laying down watching videos), sometimes my heart rate as I’m walking around my house will be around 120-140. It’s the worst in the morning when I wake up. All have started after having COVID in January. I’m trying to find my triggers - so far appears to be bending over and weight training. I was prescribed metoprolol but I am so nervous to take it. I’m hoping to hear from people with similar experiences, and what has helped them mentally/physically!

Get an echocardiogram in a setting of a structurally normal heart it's not that concerning I've had it too

i had svt in 2019 and got the ablation. could not deal with taking the meds all the time and got bad side effects, but i am also very sensitive to medication. mine always just came out of nowhere and i was living in constant fear that i would have an episode. if it is an option, i highly recommend the ablation

I took metoprolol for a genetic heart condition with similar symptoms and it did not help me in the slightest lmao. I also spent years trying to find a doctor who would listen when I said the anxiety was a symptom, not a separate condition. one 30 day holter monitor later and wow, SVT in my sleep, even occasionally turning into VFib that I miraculously self-corrected (again, in my sleep. I should really be dead). the next drug you'll probably be put on if metoprolol doesn't work is propranolol, but if you have any lingering lung problems from having COVID, you need to be extra mindful because propranolol can cause bronchospasms in people who DON'T have preexisting lung conditions

I take 25 mg of it in the morning and at night. I was having issues with a fast heartbeat and a few svt’s and pac’s were caught on a holter monitor. I also suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, so my cardiologist put me on it. Best thing that has ever happened to me. He was actually surprised such a small dose helped. My BP isn’t really effected by it either.

@Feather I’m glad to hear it’s been such a help for you! Needed to hear this, as I’ve been so nervous to take the metoprolol, this is relieving to hear
@Jcam1336 you’re welcome. I was freaked out when I started taking them. But starting low helped. And it was so much better than that constant racing heart, skipping beats feeling! Good luck 🤗
I had a brief episode with SVTs a few years ago. Pulse was 150 and Bp was high. Short of breath. I have been on metoprolol for years for PVCs. It was that drug given in IV that stopped the tachycardia and the SVTs.
@Mooey hey, thanks for sharing with me. Did your doctor say you’d have to stay on metoprolol for the rest of your life? My physician was unsure if this would be temporary or life-long
@Jcam1336 In my case, I was taking it before this episode so they adjusted my dose. I have an arrythmia and this drug was specific for that.
I took metoprolol for similar reasons but it didn't seem to help with my main symptom of dizziness. I'm not sure how much it actually helped with heart rate, breathing, etc. But my Dr prescribed me a new medication that seems to help with the dizziness.
@AwkwardMoth I’m glad you’ve found a good medication for dizziness! Yeah, I’m unsure of the metoprolol after my background as a pharmacy technician and hearing of poor side effects. I’m trying to ride it out now, but will take it if symptoms get worse. Metoprolol seems to be a mixed bag, depends on each person
It’s normal to have thise symptoms after covid vaccine or covid itself. I have other friends who went through the same. Hope feel better.
@La_Ragazza_Retro it does seem pretty typical. Have any of their symptoms or yours improved? I will probably wind up taking metoprolol. Sorry if it’s too personal, but any side effects of the metoprolol? Thank you for your responses 😁
@Jcam1336 Yes my arrythmias have improved, eventually it takes a little time. To be honest I haven’t had my heart racing anymore. I didn’t have any side effects from metoprolol. Whenever I felt like I needed it, I took 1/4 of the pill and it helped lower my heart rate. Then I took the other pill piece, and so my heart rate felt normal. Metoprolol does tend to lower your blood pressure a bit thats why I took it bit by bit. Also drinking electrolytes helps to keep everything balanced. My other friends were also prescribed metoprolol because they had the same problem after the covid vaccine, and they are doing well. 👍🏻
I had something similar, my heart was racing everytime I got up for no reason. I wasn’t doing exercise or anything. I also was prescribed metoprolol and it does help. You can try taking 1/4 of the pill and see how it works for you. I think it will help you.
