I have been referred for a wheelchair by my doctor, and I have the initial/fitting appointment in like 1.5 months. I feel kind of weird about the whole thing, but I also wish it was happening sooner because once I have it I will be able to do a lot more distance.

@impatientdaisy both my doctor and physical therapist brought it up. Usually if they feel it is necessary, they will suggest it and make a referral, and then it is up to you to follow through and do the fitting etc. my custom chair will be here august 8, and in the interim the company that makes it have me a loaner. If you feel you need this, ask your doctor or PT.

I’m curious as to how y’all go about getting these referrals? My doctor and physical therapist won’t even approve a parking pass and I’ve paid for my mobility aids myself… 😅

❤️ i get too in my head and think but am i disabled enough to warrant having one. In my head its for people who cant use legs at all? But when you do use a scooter or aid the difference in suffering makes it click. X

I honestly get it myself. As I use my wheelchair when my pain is too much and when I have longer distances. At first I was scared but once I realized it was a tool to help me. It let me breath easier, unfortunately am still waiting on my custom wheelchair

I can understand anticipation and the other side as well for having to try something new. I was exactly like that when I was in third grade. I can walk, but I use the wheelchair to get around the school faster. I hope everything goes well for you during that time. ❤️

I can understand that, getting a wheelchair raises many complex feelings. I don’t have a specific diagnosis yet and just got fitted for a wheelchair. I only plan on using it for longer distances as well (like theme parks). But my family has conflicting feelings about it so I think that also gives me conflicting feelings. I think it’s important to remember that this is going to help us get places just like any other mobility aid.
