Anybody identify with the PDA (persistent desire for autonomy) profile of autism? I know it’s more well know as pathological demand avoidance, which is how I originally identified with it, but I think the reframing is important. Anyway, I’m wonder how PDAers manage relationships with others, when it can feel like a demand to communicate. I feel like I’m lacking, most of the time, because I cannot always get myself to reach out to others; logically I know I’m not giving up any autonomy by getting support, but I also still feel this big heavy obligation to do things. Have any other PDAers found a way to add in more communication in to their lives? I think it’s also confusing, because I do have such an interest in people and I love being around them, but I also get overwhelmed so easily by sensory/emotion/other information. I’m thankful to have discovered PDA, because before I just felt like I was broken. Now I’d like to actually work with it some more in ways I haven’t been able to on my own.

I relate to this so hard. It makes doing activities with my partner difficult. Choosing movies and planning trips and dates and talking on the phone becomes a project for me because I feel like I have to. I become annoyed with him for it.

@Lin92 It's not even his fault. I just don't want to do those things with him because he unwittingly makes me feel like it's a demand.
