i can only enjoy sad songs. its not even to make me feel sad sometimes, it just brings me comfort. why is that?

      My friend who’s a music therapist suggested making a playlist that starts with songs that match your mood and gradually moves to happier songs for when I get in funks where I can only listen to sad music

      There’s science behind it! It’s reaffirm your emotions, being sad isn’t a bad thing it’s just a matter of how you express it. (I’m not saying that you’re sad while listening to sad music. Just got excited to share that bit lol)

      I enjoy sad songs sometimes because it’s the only way I feel validated. I grew up with a narcissistic parent so any emotion other than admiration and happiness were not allowed. I always found crying really really hard in the shower with the light off listening to a sad song to bring me joy before I crawled out from under the situation a bit more. I still find it therapeutic and my anxiety gets horrific if I don’t let myself cry like that for a few days every month. I’m not saying it’s the healthiest way but it has been a positive step for me.

      I have the same problem and it’s because it feels familiar and this is what makes it so comforting/ dangerous. I would suggest maybe seeing a therapist or forcing yourself to listen to some happy songs, even if it’s just one a day. Hope this provided some insight! 💕
