Recently went to a GI doctor for intestinal issues and my mom brought up my “bad eating habits” and apparently he diagnosed me with Anorexia. My mom is very upset with this and doesn’t think the diagnosis is correct since he’s misdiagnosed me in the past. I’m kind of scared? I never got a slap in the face like this and never considered I’d be diagnosed since I’m not clinically underweight and now I’m relapsing again and it’s bad, please help :(

I understand what a shock it is to find out you have an eating disorder, I was also shocked when I found out about mine. But I believe if you take a step back to calm down and look at the evidence for me I found it true. I don't knew you or your doctor. but if you do look in to it, look at what others with anorexia are feeling and then look at your self. Of course no one is the same and you might not relate to everyone and everything you find and that's ok. I found finding out that I had an eating disorder helped me in the long run. Of course it's scary and shocking but knowing what's going on in your head can help you figure out the best salutations for your self, and it's not always going to work and you may mess up but that's ok because it will help you refine your goals and make them better for you. Take this one day at a time, you going to do great😊👍

@Katherine1220 I’ve heard of that before but it’s just kind of shocking to me, in a way? I never thought I’d be diagnosed with it since I would try and hide it from people.

@feellicks Yeah my mom had mentioned the restricting I did but never thought about it as an eating disorder. She just said stuff to me in personal situations like “You’ve become like an anorexic person” or “Stop [bad behavior] or it will become an eating disorder”
I am diagnosed with anorexia and am not underweight either. Usually that diagnosis is based on eating behaviors and habits. The DSM5 does actually say that diagnostic criteria includes being underweight but that is very very outdated. Anorexia without being underweight is sometimes referred to as Atypical Anorexia because of this.
I can't say much about your diagnosis being correct or not, but I can say that anorexia isn't a weight disorder, it's an eating focused behavioral disorder. if you find yourself restricting your eating he may be right
