After one year of being mostly gluten free I don’t get any symptoms when I eat stuff with gluten anymore (used to get a fever, breathing difficulty, brain fog and a bad rash) Is it ok to cheat sometimes and eat a bit of stuff with gluten like once a week or once in 3-4 days, or will it accumulate over time and cause problems in the future? More inflammation, fever, etc.

Sadly celiac is a life long disease. Sometimes there are “silent celiacs” where after a while they feel nothing, after being on a diet for a long time, but there is still damage to your intestines that can have greater problems in the future! It does stink to have this disease but definitely manageable! I understand the want for good tasting food, but it does do damage in the long run!

Celiacs does not go away! You have to think about it more like an allergy, you eat gluten and your immune system attacks the lining of your small intestine. I find it kind of odd that you’re able to eat gluten now without symptoms, since it usually goes the other way around where when you are eating gluten you are more likely to not notice the symptoms. From my experience and from other celiacs friends, when I accidentally eat gluten (even if it’s cross contamination) I become pretty ill, extreme headaches, stomachache, and vomiting. I think you would benefit from getting some new tests run and to see if you are just sensitive or actually do have Celiacs!

Thank you! Yeah, I was tested last year when I had a high fever for months and nobody could understand why. I still get the rash if I eat gluten but I just ignore it… I see, thanks again for an honest answer. I won’t give in into social eating of tasty gluten stuff. And celiac can’t disappear or go away, right? It’s there for life? I was hoping that it’s just a diet for a while until everything heals and then, maybe one day, I’ll be able to eat gluten again.

If you actually have Celiac you can never "cheat". Gluten is a poison to your body and can do unnoticed damage. If you can have gluten without any issues you may not be Celiac and may just be sensitive. I would recommend talking with a Dr. and having them run tests for Celiac if you have not done that.
