Heya! I have OSDD-1b, and we figured out through therapy that our system formed because of intense anxiety as a child that we couldn't cope with rather than any sort of external trauma (like abuse.) Is there anyone else here with a similar experience? I've never met another system who's developed because of another illness.

@cypresz I'm so glad I made this post. It's super comforting to know I'm not alone, I've never met any systems that formed a similar way in other spaces and I've had a lot of people tell me that I HAD to have been abused or something. Thank you for sharing!! We really appreciate it :^)

i absolutely have a similar experience! while i do not have any memory regarding my early childhood unfortunately, i can tell it was most likely not abusive, at least not traditionally. however, because of the immense slew of mental illnesses i had before i developed osdd, the way i processed trauma was way different than how, say, another kid would process trauma, resulting in the formation of my first alter. you’re not alone, trust me!

We haven’t tried to get diagnosed yet (and aren’t sure if we even are a system or if these symptoms are a result of a combination of other things), so I can’t say whether we formed in the same way, but it helps me to know it’s possible for a system to form from long term anxiety, since if we are a system that’s definitely what caused us to split. My hypothesis is that the anxiety caused from being gaslit by our divorced parents caused our child mind to believe we needed to change who we were around everyone, not just our parents. Again, not diagnosed, so this is all our own speculation, but so far that explanation seems to make the most sense. So thanks for this post, it helps to know that something similar has happened before and it might not be all in our head.

@TaetaeRyn I'm glad I could help!! I know from working with therapists that we split because our child mind couldn't handle the constant stress from our anxiety, so it's most certainly possible! Honestly, I feel like the wider community tends to look at the concept of "trauma" from a very narrow lense a lot of things can be very very traumatic to a child, and severe anxiety is certainly one of them. I definitely went through a period of time where I thought it was all in my head too. I assure you it isn't, your experiences are real, even if they don't match the majority. Hope you're doing well! <3

OSDD always forms because of childhood trauma.

@Cif Of course, but do you not consider being in constant panic/distress because of an undiagnosed mental disorder as a child a form of trauma? /gen

@Ghost_Cat Oh, yes we do, sorry we misread.

The host had really frequent panic attacks and sensory overload meltdowns as a kid. There were little t traumas pretty frequently, but the panic attacks were the biggest factor in the formation of our system because she just couldn’t process the feeling

@rj.crow Glad to know we're not alone in how we formed. It sometimes feels like some don't want systems like ours in the community or that we "must have some other trauma" so it's very nice to not feel like a total outsider lol.

@Ghost_Cat I get that. We aren’t really active in any communities besides here because of it

@rj.crow Ah sorry, not host, wrong word. I’m bad at words. I guess trauma holder would probably be more accurate but we are pretty much all aware of those memories.
