I failed at completing my novel by the end of November. I didn't even make it halfway through. I feel like a failure, honestly. I know that there is lots of "Oh you aren't a failure"s coming on this post, but I don't think they will help me feel any better. I had set my mind to doing something. I tried my best, but my brain literally just shut it down. I got close to halfway through and it told me "you'll never make it and even if you do, it won't be good enough" and I couldn't get any farther. So yeah, I know people are going to boost me up on this post, but this feeling goes deep and I don't think it is going to be lifted with the boosts.

Hey if it's any co solation, I've wanted to do more than 1 NANOWRIMO and I'm behind 21 years or more and STILL wanting to complete my novels and blog entries.

I used to write. Even starting is huge!

Well. Your feelings are valid. You did try your best, and you managed to get something out of it. Sounds like you had a burn out, which happens. (And no, it’s not fun.) As far as writing and attempting NaNo again, keep going. You managed to write half of a book. You can either look at the half that wasn’t written, or the half that was written. You wrote something. It counts. If you agree and feel like you’ve had a burn out, learn about burn out. Learn the necessary ways to nurture yourself after a burn out so you don’t spiral the next time it happens. If you don’t want others to lift you up, lift yourself up. Otherwise the funky feels are just going to keep you down and then you’ll likely beat yourself up for letting yourself down. Your feelings are valid and are legitimate. But don’t let yourself spiral down the rabbit hole without an anchor to ground. You’ve got this. 🙌 Best wishes.

@Deep_Feelings I guess you are right. I managed to write a short story compilation instead of my NaNo novel and I even published it. I can always finish the NaNo novel when I feel up to going back to it, probably around the new year. For now I guess I will focus on my short stories because I can shift my focus between them when I hit walls.

@SoxyWoxy Oh wow, you’re published? I haven’t gotten that far. Sounds like a good plan. I might do that, too.

First of all, 🙌. The fact that you got half your book done. Bravo. Now, you keep working on it and finish it. Something that might help is set smaller goals. This is what i taught my younger sister. You have your big main going, your book then i have her break that down into either things we needs to accomplish, or checkpoints to help make sure to you stay on that goal. And we keep repeating until she feels confident in making sure that she understands and knows how to successfully complete 5he to goal

So you have half a book right now. That is more than most people have. You set a goal higher than most people and didn't meet it. That doesn't make you a failure. What makes you a failure is quitting after you fail.
