I've been writing a novel for National Novel Writing Month. I spent most of October planning it out and getting ready to write it. I'm almost 50% of the way to my goal of 50,000 words. but I've hit a writer's block. the block being worried that my book honestly sucks. it is a mix of sci-fi and horror, but I'm worried that it is cheesy and dumb instead of good. I'm worried that the who relationship I built in the story is dumb. I'm worried that everything about my book is bad. So I've been working on another project in the meantime, but I really need to get back to my novel because I want to finish it before NaNo is over. I feel so stuck and anxious.

As a writer, I FEEL this. A while back I was in a webinar with two authors who have become multi-millionaires from their writing. They heavily emphasized that most authors, including themselves, hit a wall where they feel like their writing is trash. Even storytellers at places like Pixar feel this way! I’ve seen this feeling mentioned numerous times in the acknowledgement sections, interviews, and personal conversations with writers I admire. I think it’s human nature to question ourselves like this—we want to self-protect, especially when it comes to strong feelings like embarrassment. The truth is, you could be writing a masterpiece and still feel like what you have is garbage. What separates authors from everyone else with these feelings is that they stick with it. They recognize that ALL first drafts are messy and no writing is ever completely finished or perfect. Writer’s block is no joke, but if you can get yourself to word vomit anything on a page, then I recommend doing it. That initial draft is the hardest part, but it’ll all feel worth it once you get to refining and polishing it into a piece you’re proud of. And don’t forget to lean on friends and loved ones for feedback along the way! Other perspectives will help your writing shine even brighter.

@Donut I just want good sci-fi horror and good lgbtq+ representation. The rest of thr book can be fluff and unimportant. I just want the idea to make sense and the relationship to not be exploitative or misrepresented
