medication helped me the most. I went from entirely nonfunctional to able to work mostly as a functioning person. lots of therapy, lots of GRACE, take grace with yourself. realize bipolar is a disability for a reason and you can have days off

Aside from working with a therapist and or doctor, there are lot's of things you can do yourself every day to help manage symptoms. I think the common denominator for people is doing your best to take care of yourself. Getting consistent and regular sleep, establishing a routine, eating relatively healthy, being very careful with drugs and alcohol. If you are having an increase in symptoms or they are not in control I would try to avoid them all together if you can. I mean I have a drink or two here and there and occasionally smoke pot but otherwise I know it affects me so yea drugs can definitely make it worse. Even coffee! Also being active and actually being in nature truly works wonders on mood. You can do something as simple as walk or if you are wheelchair bound or cant walk far just moving around as much as possible. I happen to take medication too but it all works together. I am doing well lately but sometimes my mind plays tricks on me. Everything in moderation if you can.
