Hi, you can call me G. I've been living with mental illness since I was in middle school. I was not allowed by my (homophobic veteran) parents to seek help for my mental illness until after a year of pleading. I am still working through trauma but UPDATE: I recently started with a new therapist and she's great!

I 🙏 you get the help you're searching for and need. Can I ask a question? Are your parents homophobic, or is it that they're just old school and were taught differently. I've just had to find a different way of speaking and thinking so I'm less hateful, resentful, etc. My grandparents raised me. They were good, southern religious/spiritual people. They weren't homophobic as 1 of their daughters was a lesbian and 3 of my grandmothers brothers (2 which were military) were all gay. So they weren't homophobic at all. But, they didn't believe that was right. They didn't ever speak ill of anyone and always said, *that's them, their life, what they do is up to them* they (my grandparents) just felt it shouldn't be pushed on those that didn't want to live as her daughter, brothers and others. I think this is how I have to see it too now that I'm 49. It has helped me to understand by thinking this way, rather than bringing resentment & anger to the table. Respecting others emotions, lives, thoughts, beliefs 😊 goes a long way. I pray your parents will see you're still you. Their child, no matter what.

I'm so glad you finally are getting some help. It's definitely not good when your parents aren't behind you to help. I hope you can finally get the help you need and deserve ❤️
