how do you stay committed to work when battling BPD ? it feels like I can't keep a job because one tiny thing feels like a big thing and I end up quitting.

This is me to a T! I am sadly on disability because of it. I used to work a full-time job with no issues then trauma happened... BPD reared its ugly face! I had a manager who said very rude things behind closed doors and ruined management forever for me. Every time I ve tried to work since I last just under a month and something always fails me....either my mental health or my diabeates. I ve also been hospitalized many a time.... I have one suggestion: find ways to ground yourself, and always have an escape plan. If you need to get away for a moment make sure you can in a decent amount of time. Also keep fidget toys on you... keeps your hands busy and possibly even your mind which is the biggest thing to keep busy. I totally understand being scared of management... I've learned to try not to take anything personal...much easier said then done of course lol šŸ˜† I wish you luck!

It's so nice to have someone relate šŸ˜„ how do you cope with the anxiety of learning new things at work ? I get major anxiety that I'll never learn and I get major anxiety about management getting annoyed with how long it takes for me to learn

I actually struggle with the same thing, Iā€™ve quite 3 times because of my issues with commitment and the anxiety I get from it, so I hear you, itā€™s a horrible struggle. What Iā€™ve found helpful is time management, and making sure I meet my needs while also acknowledging the importance of my work as long as it doesnā€™t come to a detriment to my health. When it does, I reach out, not using direct language cause unfortunately many work places arenā€™t accepting of mental illness and what it actually looks like in oneā€™s life(as much as theyā€™ll say they may do sometimes) but in the times where my brain is like ā€œI need to quitā€ I instead go ā€œif there any options to work with right now,ā€ and give my brain some small sense of escape that it may need if that makes sense?? Im wishing you the best

One person suggested starting with small self-care tasks like brushing your teeth or showering, and gradually adding more tasks to create a routine that makes you feel taken care of. This can help you feel prepared to face the day and may improve your ability to handle work. Another person recommended pursuing seasonal jobs, as they offer variety and built-in breaks between seasons. If you find a job you really enjoy, you can choose to stick with it for multiple seasons. It's also important to remember that it's okay to prioritize your mental health needs and that employers should provide necessary support.
