How do I stay motivated to do my self care routine? I find myself struggling

All I can say is same. No technique seems to stick and I think it’s tied to low self esteem. We keep trying though!

I’ve found that when I’m not really interested in my routine, it helps to switch it up. So like, I’ll get a new face wash to motivate myself to shower, for self care in that way. And for eating, I make sure to have a small pool of easy-to-prepare things that can allow for choice, but also could be the same for the week. Another thing I like to do to lessen demands of self-care is to make a game of it. For drinking water, I have a mason jar with measurements, and I say, “okay, I have to drink to this line and then I can get back to sewing” or whatever thing you’re doing. It’s great for small breaks at work, too, just stopping to take a drink. And then you can say, “how much work can I get done before my next drink?” It works with a lot of different things.

I make myself a list of things and make it non optional. I at least have to do one. I also make sure I adapt things if I can and don't feel guilty about it. For example some days I stand in the shower some days I sit. I also do this with house work. You can sit and do dishes or sit and cook at the stove if you just don't have the spoons to stand

I have trouble with this as well. My best advice would be to have a self care routine for when you don't have motivation and for when you do. When you lack motivation, you only complete the necessities. When you have motivation, try completing more than just that.

do a DBT pro's and cons and it could help you stay align in your self care. I've made one or two and it helps remind me what I'm doing it for and what it means to me
