What would you do? I have been advised to take Sertraline, but don't trust SSRI's for the fact they take a month to work and a month to snap back if they have the adverse effect. I am barely functioning, like terrified of the hwy. due to my first alleged panic attack. I'm scared to drive anywhere, but refuse to touch an interstate.I have no desire to live, but are doing so to help take care of my family. Last month my mother was diagnosed with heart failure and I'm the only one taking care of her. My question is would you try to take the risk in getting better even though I could "and have read" it gets worse before better? I can't stop caring for my mother. I can't be hospitalized if things go wrong, I can't loose my already low hours part time job. There is no one else but me. What would you do? Risk loosing your mother and the microdose of sanity you have left, or try to maintain, while being mentally tourchered in your own head knowing it only gets worse? I work 2 days out of the week and can't even manage that. I always seem to find my way to alcohol for relief, but that leads me to crippling anxiety the next day deeming me useless.

The doctor will likely start you on a low dose and the negatives are nowhere near as bad as how you feel now. Things will get better. I promise. Be honest with your doctor about your fears going in. But the meds, along with daily walks and some breathing practice will start to help. Your name aiming for perfect, just better xxx

Sertraline is an SNRI, different class but similar to venlafaxine. Brain zaps galore. Hated it

I've taken sertraline for years. For me, the adverse effects were minimal in the beginning, but I didn't have as much on my plate then as you do now. Personally, I would say it's worth the risk because once your body gets used to it, it does help a lot, but I understand your hesitation. I wish you the best, whatever you choose.

So there's definitely that risk and it won't be easy at all, but I highly recommend that you give it a shot! I've been on them for 12 years and they've saved my life, literally.

Well there is only one way to find out, if there's nothing else that helps then you might find it's a game changer. The side effects are horrible to begin with but if you don't get on with it there are other SSRIs you can take. You can expect to feel dizzy, impulse, nauseous and yawn/gag all the time. It also makes everything boring and feels like there's a lid on your brain. On the other hand, the numbness it brings is a HUGE relief to the mental torture you describe. You very much might find your life improves a lot. It's a case of whether you want to go down this route because they are very hard to come off once you're on them. Another thing worth mentioning is that when you come off them your anxiety gets worse. That's why it's important not to rely on them solely for your recovery. Any medication is a tool not a magic cure. Other things that have helped me have been hypnotherapy, CBD(not while on SSRIs!) and meditation. Hope this helps!
