So. Several weeks ago i was released from inpatient mental hospital (Roger’s Behavioral Health Wisconsin) and they wouldn’t release me until i agreed to do one of their outpatient programs. I picked IOP, their least intensive program. When i was signing the documents to be admitted into IOP, one of the conditions was they reserve the right to call 911 and have me re-admitted to impatient for any reason. I had no choice but to sign. Every week in IOP they make us take these tests that supposedly measure depression and anxiety levels. I told them right off the bat those are not my main issues, that i have multiple other things way more serious. They refuse to address that. Well, obviously since i have bipolar 1 and BPD and autism my test results go up and down quite a bit depending on the week. Well, today i was confronted by one of the therapists. She said she’s not noticing steady improvement and wants me to go all the way back to residential care (a 6 week program with 0 freedom) and work my way down thru PHP (8 weeks) and then IOP AGAIN (another 4-6). The only thing they really teach is DBT, which for the most part is super ineffective for me, as it’s designed pretty much for anxiety and depression only. So they’re refusing to address my more major problems that are affecting me way more, trying to shove the same solutions down my throat, and then punishing me when it’s not working. She said she MAY POSSIBLY FORCE me to go to residential, and if i refuse call 911 on me as previously mentioned, simply traumatizing me more. It’s not a for sure thing, but I am PISSED beyond belief. How do i deal with this? I can’t AFFORD to go through all that treatment again. We’re talking months. I have no money as it is bc I’m on FMLA and my job doesn’t allow partial leave. Their treatments are completely unhelpful at BEST, and a complete waste of my time. What the f do i do to get out of this situation? HELP!!!!!

@DitsyDiabetic while it's designed for BPD the way people implement it can vary and this program can still be focused on depression and anxiety too much. I had a similar time in php and IOP and I only got out by lying to them a lot. They didn't care much about my actual symptoms beyond what was on the phq-9 and they taught us dbt principles but didn't model them or follow them when trying/pretending to help. They also were very ignorant about autistic things, saying I was refusing to participate for not being able to speak, attention seeking for crying when they threatened me with escalation, and the psychiatrist wouldn't talk to me until I stopped bouncing my leg or stimming in any way. CBT and DBT are being misused in horrible ways all over the place. Marsha linnehan would be pissed if she had to do one of these programs

If it makes you feel better DBT didn't help with the big issues I was having either. Is there any way you can discuss this more in depth with the psychologist?

I am not in as dire a situation as you are but I am also having this stuff shoved down my throat. I just got out of inpatient after I was fired for having Schizoaffective Disorder & other serious problems. They refuse to treat the Schizo shit, the hoarding that destroyed my life, the OCD, because that’s “too confusing” for them. The only treatment option they gave me was this DBT crap too. Just because they use it for BPD doesn’t mean it is appropriate for you as an individual - doctors are too prideful to admit that. I can’t help much as for how to deal with their BS. I can only sympathize… they also assigned me a psychiatrist who is threatening to have me hospitalized again if I have a panic attack in her presence, when I have history of being one of the most severe Panic Disorder cases ever documented in the state… Here’s my theory: they don’t know how to actually help you & they’re too prideful to admit it, so they’re forcing this DBT crap instead. That’s what it’s been in my experience, sorry that I’m not much help.

dbt is therapy designed for individuals with bpd not necessarily for anxiety and depression. it's meant to bring the emotional mind and logical mind together. which borderlines struggle with. I'm in PHP right now and i hope you're able to find solutions that work for you
