I've been waiting for a sleep study for 18 months, but I'm still "not eligible". They want me to drop 100 lbs first. I'm 5'5" and 240 lbs. I haven't been 140 lbs since I was 18. How can I convince them to do the study without making me lose an obscene amount of weight?

Yes that seems crazy... Especially since you could have sleep apnea for other reasons too. I am overweight but I was told that I also have a small throat and my tonsils are likely in the way as well. I agree that you should find another specialist.

If your insurance will allow, maybe consider a new specialist. Regardless of what weight contributes this just sounds fat phobic as hell. Even if dropping the weight helps you're still possibly lacking oxygen to your brain and can be exhausted as a result. So sorry to hear they're being this way to you.
That’s absolutely ridiculous that definitely should not matter!!! Sleep apnea can cause a lot of terrible issues! I would find a new doctor! I’m sorry 🥲🥲🥲
Can you go to another doctor??
@Lily_Pad It's not my doctor, it's the actual sleep specialist
I am 5'7 and 230 and had it immediately. Mine was severe. Now finding out caused heart issues.
