I cannot stop picking my skin. It’s causing infections and I’m embarrassed and idk what to do. I can’t stop doing it.

My partner does this a lot too and wears gloves with a texture they can stand most of the time. It prevents him from being able to reach the scabs effectively at all. And if they're that bad and you have a doctor, tell them that you're compulsively picking and they might give you a prescription cream to help fight off infection. That's what they did with my partner

Just for context I don't pick my skin I'll scratch until it bleeds or rub my arms until their red and inflamed. One this that helped me is I got some anxiety/fidget rings(they spin and occupy your hands) from Amazon and it's helped me redirect to the rings rather than my skin.

I have a problem with hair pulling and skin picking as well, but I found this therapy video helpful https://youtu.be/mxwUyUoXHVc

My partner does this. I pick a lot too but with my meds it's slowed down a lot. My partner tries to cut her nails a lot and keep them constantly short. Just cutting them isn't usually enough bc of the sharp edges, so file them down when you're down trimming them.

I scratch wounds into my scalp and they get infected and cause swelling a lot. I don’t have a guaranteed solution, but a few things I’ve tried that have helped are wearing things to cover the “hot spots” like hats in my case, blocking my nails with gloves or finger cots or bandaids, long as I can for the skin to heal. I also hear some people have success by keeping fidget toys with them at all times. Wishing you the best!

Try to find pleasure in the times you’re able to resist doing it if you can. For example I get really bad in the bathroom especially when I shower, so if I can get through a whole shower and get back to my room without picking at my skin, I feel pretty proud, and I try to use that feeling as motivation not to pick.
