My two previous doctors have both diagnosed me with major depression and generalized anxiety after hours of asking questions. My new doctor has only asked me a few questions and basically gave me what felt like a card reading for one hour and is assuming I have some type of bipolar disorder. I'm not a doctor, but I know something is wrong here. I don't trust this doctor too much but he's the only option I have right now and I don't know how to directly tell him more than I have that I think he's wrong and that he's ignoring my actual issues. Had he not given me such a brief and vague questioning would I take him seriously. I guess I am just venting here. Second visit is tomorrow.

@Sariphina @porcelain. I think this is great advice. I have learned the hard way that you really have to advocate for yourself! If what the doctor is telling you doesn’t feel or sound right, ask the questions just like @sariphina suggested. You are also allowed to ask them to write these things down for you. THEY work for YOU. Good luck to you 🙏

What has been helpful is to Google or do research on depression and bipolar. There are a lot of symptoms but certain symptoms reflect more of certain illnesses. Family members can be helpful if they've noticed something different about an individual that the individual doesn't realize is not normal. I tag along with my husband to his appointments because one he doesn't always tell them the truth, also he doesn't remember some things for whatever reason and he may not realize it's not normal for certain behaviors

Well you can always ask questions too. I do all the time. Generally they have to check a certain number of "boxes" to say you/I/he/she/they have XYZ diagnosis so I like to say which areas of my issues does this cover and what could account for the areas missing. Does this diagnosis often "look like" another diagnosis. I'm 45 and have been being diagnosed with different mental illnesses since I was about 9. I certainly have had my share of initials they have labeled me with that I have gone wait a minute ... This and that both have that as a box to check why this and it that. It's your right to ask questions.
