How long can PTSD last, im 4 years into it and most days I feel like is starting to fade, then I'll have flashbacks and see triggers and start to think horrible thoughts and end up in tears.

From what I understand it can take upwards of 10 years of active treatment to heal successfully from PTSD. For some it can be a life long struggle where they get better but still have symptoms their whole life. Recovery isn't linear either and even with active treatment there are backslides and new discoveries that can make it feel like you're back to square one, even if you're still better off than you actually were at square one.

PTSD can be a lifelong battle. You learn about yourself & your triggers to help control your symptoms & your emotions, but you can't forsee new triggers. Understanding yourself & learning how to identify & react when triggered is key. Even if it's breathing & meditation exercises. Therapy is an important tool to help learn techniques. Not all therapist are the same. It takes time to find one that is a good match for you.
