I hate that it’s such a big deal for a woman to shave her head. The vanity that is tied to women and having long hair is astounding. I’m not saying if you’re a woman with long hair you’re vain but I’m saying it’s just weird that women are seen as more beautiful or desired when they have long hair and that when they cut it off or shave it off it’s seen as such a big deal and people even ask why they did it and still have their reservations about it if a woman were to explain it was too hot for them with long hair. (I know this is just a rant but it came from comments I’ve been seeing about Florence pughs hair and something she’s said herself) (also just have to say, this is not intended as disrespect to any spiritualities or religions) I do want to shave my head at least once in my life to free myself of the expectation of my hair being where my femininity comes from.

THIS!!! I cut my hair suuuper short three years back and it was great! It didnt mess with my face, my back felt free and it was overall a very nice experience. It also helped with my overstimulation because i didnt feel the hair no mo. Throughout my hair journey everybody, and i mean EVERYBODY said the same thing -“aww why did you cut your hair? It was so pretty” It doesnt matter if i like this haircut more, it doesnt matter if it helps me be more functional and it doesnt matter if i feel more comfortable in myself now— because i cut my long hair i was somehow doing a wrong. It just sucks! People care so much about what women look like that it begins to take a toll on you. I began hating my hair, and now i gave in and have been growing out my awful hair for the three years, n guess what? The amount of time i waste in the shower, the frizz i cant tame, and the “beautiful hair” you dont even get to see because its always tied up (its hella annoying) are things that are not pleasant and not worth it for me. Ive always wanted to shave my head and i think this will be the next step for my hair, only after i get the Amélie haircut (i love the movie!) i cant wait to get the weight off my back (literally) and i hope we progress further and are able to appreciate, love women and keep our dumb mouths shut when it our opinion on somebody-else’s decision for their appearance. Sorry im ranting too! TLDR: I hate having my hair long and i share the same sentiments as you! <3

  @vy1 No, it’s okay! You can rant too I’m not gonna judge! I’m scheduled to cut my hair to my shoulders tomorrow after having it grown out to past my butt again from the last time I cut it. I also realized a lot of people would ask the the same questions every time I cut my long hair. My hair grows really fast so it gets really long and I cut it short every three years and it’s the same questions (especially bc my hair is healthy and I have a “golden” hair color, my mom even mourns me cutting my hair every time and my grandma keeps the braid I cut off) I don’t understand the hype about long hair because as you said, the “beautiful” hair is so much work. I’m not saying it’s not beautiful, because it can be, just not for me lol
