Uneasy about the Link Between Monkeypox and Gay Men

I heard a piece about it on NPR( liberal) and the doctor said that most of the cases were in San Fran & NYC. It is weird b/c its not a bloodborne pathogen but she said most cases were men who had sex with men & ppl who had 5 or more sexual partners in a month. She also said that it's passed from close physical contact but did not call it airborne or bloodborne . They usually have a term for how it's spread. Apparently it is different b/c u can get it by touching someone who has it but also, she said families, in close quarters were at risk. So, although it isn't exactly called airborne like COVID, you can get it from sharing bedsheets. So it must just be like herpes. Where if you touch an open lesion or whatever that lesion sheds, you can contract it. It does make a sore. Homophobes will take that info and call it a gay disease b/c it is hitting big, progressive cities 1st. Yes, gay men live in Trump country but, I hope, not many. It's just that there are more of any one group clustered in big cities, where they are less likely to be singled out and beaten. So, that's why an ignorant, bigoted, POS would call it a gay disease. They are having trouble controlling the outbreak and boys in redneck areas who get it, won't tell anyone, for fear of being called gay and will spread it. Infections are doubling every week, I think she said. As we continue to take away habitat from wild animals we will be starting to contract all sorts of new & reemerging diseases, that they carry. It being a "gay" disease is stupid. It is a disease that was transmitted from a wild animal( probably monkey) and that person gave it to his/her family.Any sexually active person is at risk b/c of close contact. Good thing Trump isn't president, except for the fact thst he would probably get it. He has close contact with lots of women. He would rile up those rednecks into blaming gay people and it would b more ammunition, (no pun intended) for these maniacs to shoot people down with AK-47s and they would plead self defense. They think that ALL gay men are sexually aggressive& could sadly, be believed, at a hillbilly court that a faggot ( their wor, not mine) was trying to have sex with him. Even if he weighs 409lbs and hasn't washed his hair in a month, their mentality is that gay men want to f*&k any other man or boy, every minute of the day. They have been brainwashed to think that if you're gay you're a sex fiend. They are the most dangerous type of ppl. They have fixed beliefs from a feeling or something someone told them or they think that they're Bible Scholars. In fact, most of us know very little about how that book finally got written. I read a little bit about it & was surprised to learn that the Pope and his cronies decided what would be in and what would be left out, which is tons of material. So Jesus didn't just put a book together( he was already dead, i think, when the New Testaent was written) and say although this book is not written in your language or any modern language, please take this translated book( many times) and with your limited brain interpret it anyway you want and that is the truth for the planet. Get out there and make everyone else see it your way or you can jail em, tortue em or kill em. It will start infecting more & more ppl, so ppl who actually read objective material, will know that it is not a gay disease. It is not passed like HIV or Hep C, so everyone who has close contact, not just sex, with any other person, regardless if male/female or lbgqt, is at risk. I hope that you haven't been singled out. I hope that the media informs the public with the facts and takes the emphasis off of men who have sex with men. It is too dangerous, in our country, now, to put an already targeted group, at more risk of being harrassed.

I heard one report mentioning the link to gay men. I immediately thought that’s weird. I’m a biologist/toxicologist and I guess all I can say is there are people who think critically enough to know better. As with any target towards lgbtq+ keep your community strong and you’ll have a support system no matter the public opinion. I’m a straight female so I can’t know how things like that may affect you personally but I try to be an ally as much as I can.
