it’s extremely hard having mental health issues while being black. they don’t believe you &/or punish you for the feelings you have. are there any other black or african american people that can relate? i really need to find others to talk with about this

Hii I'm black too and I get it, it's like they think only crazy people can be mentally ill and will constantly push our thoughts and feelings away

Im sorry you feel unheard. I would definitely seek out a black doctor for the same reason that I switched to a female gynecologist. Your peers see and hear you in a way that non peers just can't. It comes from shared experience. Doesn't mean the others aren't good doctors, but sometimes seeking out your own tribe is beneficial. Good luck.

Oh and let’s not mention pain. They think us black women can handle any type of pain. I’m much older than you (I’m 30) but it’s always been like that.. Although I don’t deal with mental health I deal with pain and I still feel a lot of people don’t really believe what I go through.
