I'm on my period right now and I hate the pain. I have full body cramps along with a raging migraine. Ibuprofen isn't working at all right now and hasn't. I haven't gotten a good night's sleep so I'm just tired. I hate pain and I'm so tired of it. I tried telling doctor's but I was dismissed in my concerns. "surely it's not that bad, if it was at a ten you'd be at home crying, your blood work is normal (after testing for PCOS), you have nothing wrong with you. You're too young to have anything wrong with you. You behaved better than most women getting their iud because they usually scream. I couldn't walk for two days and my period lasted for seventeen days with the IUD coming out on it's own. I told the doctor about the IUD, and was dismissed for that. period cramps should not be feeling like I'm giving birth to a baby. This runs in every single female in my family and we've all been dismissed. When is it going to change? I have yet to pick a new doctor since turning nineteen because I don't want to keep being ignored. the only thing I've medically gone through was going to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth removed. I just want this to be over with.

Switch doctors and ask about rizatriptain(I probably spelled it wrong) for your migraines!! Works like a charm for mine

It sounds like you had a really horrible and sexist doctor, and I’m really really sorry. This kind of gaslighting and dismissal of women and their experiences of pain has a long ugly history. Depending on where you live, I don’t know what your access and options are like, but you should absolutely seek a new doctor if it’s possible for you right now. You do not deserve to live with this level of pain and symptoms, and you shouldn’t have to. I won’t lie to you, there’s a lot of medical sexism out there, but better doctors ARE out there. I recommend, when possible, only seeing female doctors or doctors who specialize in LGBTQ+ healthcare (who know more about the uterus, hormones, PCOS, etc, regardless of your gender or sexuality). Depending, again, on what’s available to you, you can try to find a primary care, an OBGYN, or an endocrinologist. If they don’t take you seriously and make you feel respected and listened to in the first visit, do not go back, and try someone new. I know from experience that that can be exhausting and difficult, but I also know from experience that it’s far better than wasting time with a doctor who ultimately will not do their job or help you. I’m 28 now and I’ve been wrangling specialists for 12 years now, I promise you that treatment is out there. I haven’t had your exact experience, but I know how awful things must feel right now. Please know you’re not alone. Reach out by DM anytime if you have questions about finding a doctor, advocating for yourself at appointments, or anything else 💓

@aldrwytch I just want to reiterate, the being ignored and dismissed is the worst feeling. It drove me crazy. But I stuck to my guns, found better doctors, and treatment. It took way longer than it should have, but I’m getting there. You are not crazy or exaggerating or any of that bullshit that asshole told you,
