Anyone struggle with Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? How do I even begin to manage this illness interpersonally when no ones even heard of it?

I do! Do you mean medical professionals/ social workers don’t know how about it? Or people in your life? If it’s the later I just treat it like regular PTSD because most people are going to equate the symptoms of CPTSD and PTSD. Most people have a basic understanding of PTSD, even if it’s solely from the perspective of service people/veterans. I very rarely will explain the “complex” part to non-mental health professionals unless I’m asked. It took years of therapy, support from loved ones, and a lot of hard work to get where I am but I also meet myself where I’m at. There are some triggers I don’t think I’ll be able to get rid- so my therapist and I have plans for how to work through them if they happen. It’s difficult but possible, just make sure you’re giving yourself grace. I feel like in the beginning a lot of it felt useless and hopeless.

You’ll find out your CHOSEN FAMILY when going through these challenges. Many people (blood relatives & “friends”) will go to the wayside during your journey. Either they don’t understand your struggle or they’re low key resentful that you’re breaking the mold. *Try* to remember that your tribe is out there & soooo many people GET what you’re going through. Support groups are helpful (or people on here, too). 💕 💕 💕

@Lavendar_Sapphire I am thinking more about friends and family. It’s hard to get any support from them when they won’t put in the work to understand what I’m going through.
