You and your daughter are miracles. Don't let anyone take that away from you.

Putting up as in putting them on display in your house or putting up as in storage? Honestly either is normal. She is 8. Many people update decorations or put those up to make room for newer pictures and many people love nostalgia and keep them out for life. I'm sorry trauma is so tightly connected to someone you love so much. There is nothing wrong with loving your child and wanting her keepsakes and wanting to show them off.

@thekitchensink as the start of this year I've been coping with it and I've been wanting to give her more instead of being in a 4x4 inch box

You should do whatever makes you comfortable. šŸ’• my daughter came from my rapist (although not same situation as you) and I have experienced similar feelings of not knowing what I really want to have out or not. For me, I had to put some of those sorts of things in a box instead because it was reminding me of the trauma too much. But I think you should do whatever you’re comfortable with. If it doesn’t hurt you to see those things then set them out!

Can't the miracle be that you chose to make happiness out of devastation? I don't want to neg anyone's choices with regard to carrying a child or not - and no one truly has a right to characterize that decision for you. The way the fetus was conceived is one thing, the daughter you chose to have is another entirely - the first was not your choice but the second was and you have every right to stand by your decision and be proud of it and your daughter. You get to decide how to feel about the things that have happened to you, no one else - if those baby things are precious to YOU and make YOU happy, then you should absolutely display them.

In my honest opinion, family dies not have to come from blood. If you feel that she is your daughter, then she is. Regardless of the circumstances. Just because some people do not feel the same way in the same circumstance does not make your feelings any less valid.

She’s your kid! It sounds like you really love her even though what happened to you. If you love her, I wouldn’t worry about what other people say about it. I would say treat her like any other kid! A lot of women.. if they got pregnant in that situation they would have absolutely had a difficult issue raising the child. So I’m glad you actually care about your daughter! But just know it’ll also be hard on the kid as well, if you don’t treat her like any other kid. When my mom got divorced… I was only 2. She ended up getting married to my stepfather. My mom gave birth to my brother, and I thought I didn’t matter anymore. This was my stepfathers 1st actual birth child. I ended up getting extremely jealous of my brother… Basically what I’m saying is treat you kid equally to other kids/siblings… no matter what. It can mess with them. If you love your child so much, then that child therefore is your ā€œmiracle!ā€

Her conception wasn't a miracle, but her birth was. She's YOUR daughter, YOU get to decide how precious her life is to you and YOU get to decide what to put up
