My therapist recommended that I consider going to the er because my depression and anxiety medication isn't working and I can't get in to a psychiatrist for another month. Is this worth doing? if so what should I expect from the situation?

The ER? They're not going to be able to treat that properly, mental health is a long term issue. If you aren't currently having a crisis, I'd say make an appointment with your general practitioner to get you through until the appt.
