Hello, I need to find a new psychiatrist and don't know how to go about getting one that takes my insurance which is government insurance. one who will listen to me and not just spend 5 minutes with me and think they know me better that I do. my current psychiatrist won't change my meds, won't give me my ADHD meds. I feel like every month that go by and she don't help me is another month wasted because nothing has changed to help make me feel better. and I am 55 I have wasted enough time on doctors who won't listen. I'm in Arizona, does anyone have any suggestions?

Some insurance companies can directly connect you to professionals within their insurance coverance. I use Blue Cross Blue Shield and I can meet virtually with a doctor/therapist/psychiatrist through their app. It lets me pick the person and time, and it’s confidential. Maybe you can see if there’s something like this for yours?

You should be able to request a different Dr. through the medical office you visit your current Dr. I'm going to do the same thing when they allow in-person visits for two reasons 1. She keeps her back to me throughout the stay, 2. She seems interested in giving me drugs. I loved my previous Dr. we got along; we didn't just talk about my mental health situation from my past and current events. We talked about current events; I could talk about politics as we had a lot of the same views and values of the time. Sometimes it takes seeing more than one Dr. before you find the right fit. God Bless and Good Luck.

I would try contacting social services or media card and see who accepts your insurance 💕

Hi Cathys you can make a appointment with your primary care provider and tell them the situation that you are in they can help you find a mental health provider to help you that is on your insurance. Also don’t let anyone including a doctor tell you you are okay when you know you are not. And if your PCP won’t help you than find another one your PCP might also prescribe you something to help until you can be seen by your new psychiatrist. I had a similar situation where I was being seen by a different doctor every time I would go and none of them seemed to know what they were doing so I went to my PCP and told them the situation and they found me a different provider. Just an idea anyway.
