anyone have tips for overcoming addiction? specifically alcohol. went through a bad break up about a year ago and just spiraled down. I want to learn self control and discipline. but it feels totally compulsive at this point to stop on the way home from work and buy enough booze to get blind drunk. and when i dont drink, i barely sleep. im getting worried at this point because of how much im consuming. help.

I've never been into drinking, but I'm a nicotine fiend so I understand the addiction. I've found what gets me away from my vape even for a few hours is deliberately going out of my way to put myself in a situation where I can't have that. That's difficult for alcohol every social gathering is practically drinking and partying, but maybe take up a hobby, every time you feel like drinking maybe take a walk or sit at a park meet some new people, just something to get you out of the house, something to take your mind off the alcohol. I would say you can try your hand at dating again but I understand how the addiction can effect who you surround yourself with so that's probably not the best thing

I agree with zoro. Rehab was the best place to start my recovery journey. I hated it but it worked. Addiction is always a struggle for me but I learned tools in rehab that still help. There are great dual diagnosis programs now that treat addiction and mental illness. You can do this. Get help because you're worth it.

Hey friend, it seems like you passed the first which is admitting that you have a problem. Now it’s the stage to seek for help. You can find a rehab centre near your home, with complete anonymity
