tw/ light mention of suicide . . . . . . . I used to take zoloft for a few weeks about a year ago when I was prescribed it in the hospital, but this is more of a general depression medication question. I need opinions, should I try taking medication again? I'm scared of side affects, being dependent on it in the future, and whether I'll be able to afford it when I move out. I'm not even sure if I need it. I'm generally uninterested in everything which makes it hard to talk to people and even harder to enjoy activities. I've been in and out of therapy a lot, feeling like I've reached a wall that I can't pad in my progress and I'm starting to think that maybe I can't get past it without medication. I'm very, VERY against going on meds, but I'm scared it's my only option. I kinda hope I'm shouting into the void here, but if I'm not, I hope I can get some advice.

Zoloft specifically is sort of a 50/50 chance. But I understand the whole medication thing being scary. Luckily now there are genetic tests available to see what meds might help. Those can be hard to get though, so it also helps to get a psychiatrist you trust that is willing to try different things and go slow. Some people do fine with low doses of medication. Also, some supplements can help as well.
