How do I deal with anxiety of texting... like I hate phone calls because not being able to see the other person is stressful, but I also hate texting because they take so long to reply. Whenever I text my bf he always takes an hour to text me back, or even my family can take forever too. But I usually text people back within 5 minutes, because if I don't I'll start thinking I'm making them mad by not replying. Are there ways to help with the anxiety of when ppl don't message back, or at least does anyone else experience this ?

Hi Ronin, I have the same issue with talking on the phone I hate talking on the phone it makes me nervous and sometimes can even set me into a panic attack. As far as texting is concerned you just have to remember that most people look at a text as I will respond when I get to it type of thing I know talking on the phone sucks but if you need a immediate answer than you should try to call I prefer to text because it gives me a moment to think about what I am saying back and I can reed it over too make sure it’s what I’m trying to say. But yes I still get anxious waiting for the text to come back. But you just have to remember that it’s an I will get to it when I can type of thing just keep reminding yourself of that. I will get to it when I can and that even if the person takes a while it’s not necessarily because they don’t want to it’s more likely that they are doing something and have either read it and are thinking or that they are busy doing something and will respond when they are able to. Texting anxiety and phone call anxiety are very real but remember you are in control and that life is full of things that take time. I highly recommend when you text someone set down the phone and go focus on a task you need to get done like dishes, laundry a magazine, a video game, movie, book, vacuum, bake or even dance to music the trick is to distract yourself from the stress and do something fun when you are done doing your activity you’ll feel a lot better. My mother always said “a watched pot never boils.” It’s the same concept with a phone or text. When you’re doing something else that’s when it will happen. Life is full of things that pull you in 500 directions and sometimes a text is lost in the shuffle.

I can relate to this. I cope by turning off my phone and take a break from it and get busy doing something else. Unless it's a true emergency taking a phone break is giving your nervous system a break
