what do you do when you experience sudden & dramatic drops in mental health? mentions of SH + suicidal thoughts // ive been doing well recently. no SH since november, suicidal thoughts never serious enough to worry about (no plans in place), but something set me off today and i have no clue what it was. this is the worst ive felt in nearly 4 years and i can't even pin point what made it happen. what are some things that have triggered you in the past? and what are some ways you've dealt with the feelings

I like doodling or write poetry when I feel at the breaking point.

Also, writing down a list of triggers and way of managing them and symptoms can help. There is power in being able to talk with a therapist about what you are going through, especially if you have a therapist you've worked with in the past, most therapists are fine with past clients who check in every so often.
The best thing is to contact a crisis line. Texting HOME to 741 741 can help. Most people are concerned that the police or Paramedics will be called right away if they reach out, but that's not usually the case. I do crisis work on a campus and I have yet to witness the police or ambulance being called on a person this year.

I like to talk to close friends or family When I'm really low it helps me when i hear from people who love me because I forget that people really do care about me even when i hate myself

Some ways to deal with sudden drops in mental health include going for a walk, watching a favorite show, distracting yourself with a hobby, talking to someone, meditating, or engaging in activities that help take your mind off the negative thoughts. It's important to have a safety plan and consider reaching out to a therapist or a support hotline when experiencing intense emotions or suicidal thoughts.
