I just got my results back from my bone density scan, and it says I have severe osteoporosis. šŸ˜± Iā€™m a 34 year old man. And Iā€™m pretty sure I know exactly how this happened. A year and a half ago, I had a spinal injury from lifting a couch. My PCP told me it was a minor injury that would heal on its own. He said surgery was an option, but it wasnā€™t necessary. So I decided not to get surgery. The pain began getting worse this year, so I went to see a spine doctor. He said the injury was worse than I thought and it healed badly, causing my spinal curvature. So he sent me to get this bone scan, which is how I found out about the osteoporosis. He also said if Iā€™d gotten the surgery right after the injury, it would have been a pretty easy and noninvasive surgery. But now, if I want surgery, heā€™ll have to cut through my spine and ribs to realign it, and heā€™s afraid heā€™d make it worse, so he also advised no surgery. Honestly, Iā€™m getting tired of hearing all these doctors tell me not to get surgery. Thatā€™s how I got into this shitty situation to begin withā€”by trying to avoid surgery. And it just gets worse. I think I might just need to get a new doctor. My PCP has a very ā€œhands offā€ attitude. He things doing nothing is the best solution for everything. And clearly he was wrong. I also think I should get the surgery. After all, osteoporosis doesnā€™t get better on its own. Iā€™m kind of pissed. Both at myself and at my doctors. Even my mom keeps pushing ā€œno surgery.ā€ šŸ˜‘ Thoughts?
