I'm currently being shamed for not wanting to eat in public, it can be very overstimulating and makes me extremely uncomfortable, and my whole life up to now I've been told to "Get over it" and that I'm ruining their entire day ans being mean because I don't want to eat in a resteraunt, and I've been saying this my entire life. I'm going to be insanly uncomfortable the entire time and possibly have an internal meltdown, and possibly an anxiety attack, I feel awful for saying no, but I know that it will be best for my mental state, does anyone else have to deal with this?

@AriEden I can maybe last about 20 minutes because being outdoors also makes me feel real unsafe, I just wish I wasn't shamed for it, you know?

I've concidered doing this and I absolutely would, it's a good idea but the person who told me this was a parent and would not at all let me have anything that would calm me down, but for you personally I say go for it they can really help sometimes and come in handy

i’m newly diagnosed and i’m considering buying the noise cancelling headphones because of i’m eating in public around other people, it makes my head hurt hearing people chewing and their forks scraping on plates and it just makes me so upset. but i feel like it would call more attention to me, and i’m keeping it private for now, so i haven’t yet.
Yes I never eat around anyone because of childhood truama and always being told when I would eat that "I was fat and needed to lose". Anytime I'm around other people and food I get really nervous and then start crying.
@alyssa25 I've also had isses where when I eat infront of others I feel judged as well, and that's really what piles on the discomfort and anxieties like nothing else in the world
oh absolutely, combo anxiety autism, and emetophobia makes restaurants unbearable after maybe 40 minutes
