If anyone here has lost or had to give up their dream job because of their illness, how do you cope with it? I tried pushing it off and figuring out ways to make my job easier to do but my medications make it dangerous to run heavy machinery and I can’t get through a work day without them. I’m getting closer and closer to having to quit but I don’t have any other options. I’ve been applying to work from home jobs left and right and I can’t even get a call back. I can’t get disability because I live with my boyfriend. I’m just so stressed about the potential of losing this job and being stuck at home, miserable, and unable to make money. Which would leave us with half the usual income because I make as much as my boyfriend and we’re already struggling as it is. I don’t know what to do.

I would try to get on ssdi and ssi anyways. A boyfriend is not a stopping factor only a husband that makes to much. I gave up on my dream job but I buy books that pertain to the subject to feel better. I worked so odd jobs before getting on ssdi.

I'm not sure why you can't get disability unless you haven't worked enough. SSDI( ss disability insurance) is not income dependent. You can have a home & money in the bank b/c it is from money that you paid to the government. Even if you only qualify for SSI( not benefits from work quarters), as long as you're not married to someone who makes a lot of money & don't have a house in your name or lots of savings, you should still qualify. You just get a letter from him stating that you are paying rent, to him. SSI pays $800 month & you get Medicaid insurance. You can't work, at all, unless under the table, from the day you apply to the day you're approved. Then there are limits to how much you can earn. You could work part-time, I know on SSDI, but not sure about SSI. SSDI also lets you work full-time in a position that your disability allows you to do, for one year while still receiving benefits. There are programs that pay for your gas and work clothes. The hardest part is having no income while you wait. Most ppl get turned down the first time. I got a lawyer after being turned down and if they take your case, it means they know that they can win. The gov pays their fees out of the back money you're owed and it can be 2 -3 yrs, so it's a good amount of money. If you have savings find out how much you're allowed for SSI. You can put the money in someone else's name, if need be. You can also be retrained for another job or go back to school. There's money available for that, too. Good luck & although you may have to change your lifestyle, you shouldn't put yourself in danger. That is what these programs are for. There's tons of home jobs, if you're good with computers or will learn. Some of them pay very well.
