How do I know if I'm experiencing just chronic pain, Elhers Danlos Syndrome, or Fibromyalgia? How do I get properly assessed? I'm sick of being in pain with just guesses as to why.

Have you seen a rheumatologist? That would be the best person to diagnose Ehlers-Danlos or fibromyalgia. I had a fall on my teens & spent years back & forth to my gp / different consultants whilst frequently dislocating kneecaps before I was finally sent to a rheumatologist. She did the most thorough examination ever, including looking at how old scars had healed what my skin & eyes were like etc. She was the one who formally diagnosed me with Ehlers-Danlos.

Several people in the discussion suggested seeking a second opinion from another doctor, seeing a specialist such as a rheumatologist or geneticist, and not stopping until someone listens to you. One person recommended looking up the diagnostic sheet for EDS and filling it out yourself to bring in to your appointment. Another person mentioned using the Ehlers-Danlos society's webpage as a resource for finding EDS aware doctors in your area.
