does anyone have any good methods or tips for calming down when you’re overwhelmed? i have two people in my house that have covid so i’m in charge of my younger sibling and the cleaning and feeding i have two other people to help me with this but it’s just a lot and it’s very stressful

inhale for 5, hold for 7, exhale for 8. holding and exhaling for longer than inhaling is proven to calm the parasympathetic nervous system

@midnightdrives i agree. it sounds so cliché but truly inhaling for 5 holding for 5 and exhaling for 5 at least one round (although more is great) while thinking “i can do this” “i am doing this” “what should i do to start this?” really helps me. also, asking my self what i have to do in question form rather than stating it makes me feel calmer. more in control. for example, if i have to clean the bathrooms: instead of “i need to clean the bathrooms. ill do that soon” i say “will i clean the bathrooms? yeah i will. when should i clean the bathroom? after i eat.” that one is def about control and not feeling like a victim of circumstances or ur mind which i think is a common theme among mental health
Lately I’ve been acknowledging my anxiety I haven’t been letting it take control and I’ve said it to myself as well and it’s helped me. It doesn’t work for everyone but it’s worked for me so I hope it’ll work for you. I can’t promise it will though. All you can do it try and as long as you try that’s all that matters.

recently taking SUPER DEEP breaths has helped a lot
yoga has helped me a lot with feeling overwhelmed. specifically child’s pose, it feels like things just slow down and i can go back to what i’m doing. even just sitting in it for a minute can help!
finding a safe space and somewhere to be alone can help a lot, listening to music you like or doing an activity you like can help as well. sometimes a good snack and a nap can go a long way
