when you feel your anxiety escalating, try picking out 5 things you can see. Then you keep going if needed. 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and 1 thing you can taste!
Iāve started keeping headphones on me so if I get really anxious I can go to the bathroom and take a great for a minute with songs that I know confort me (or sometimes putting in headphones without leaving is appropriate and can help)
My therapist gave me a method called the STOPP method
S is for Stop to just pause for a moment
T is for Take a breath, and pay attention to how you are breathing
O is for Observe, observe what's going on, what your thoughts are, where is your focus of attention, what are you reacting to, what sensations are you noticing in your body
P is for Pull back and put in some perspective. What's the bigger picture, take a helicopter view, another way of looking at it, how would you advise a friend, is the fact or opinion, what is more reasonable explanation
P is for Practice what works. What is the best thing to do and the most effective and appropriate to do that follows your values
Box breathing is my savior. Take 4 second breath, hold it for 4 second, exhale for 4 seconds, and hold that for 4 seconds. It helps calm your breathing
