Hi kaylah, I believe mine came from childhood trauma and abuse my father was schizophrenic and my primary caretaker and I experienced a lot of abuse from him. This trickled into my adult life and affected the people and partners I chose which tended to be abusive as well. Years of compacted emotional pain and hurt. There's a lot of negative information surrounding BPD and while this condition isn't technically curable I feel as though working through trauma and hurt can help us navigate our lives ina more positive and productive manner. I am very early in my diagnosis but I am trying to understand that this affliction is not my fault but my body's way of protecting me from repeated relived experiences that we can find a way to work through. You aren't alone

Trauma most likely, even secondary traumas that you may not recognize as trauma. And theres not really a cure all but you can help it with therapy

BPD is almost always caused by trauma. Honestly though, the disorder itself kind of lacks scientific validity in some respects--it might be better described as Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) or Developmental Trauma Disorder. It's worth looking into those as well, as they were both proposed disorders to replace BPD and a few others in the DSM but were rejected due to the APA honestly not seeing C-PTSD or Developmental Trauma Disorder as financially profitable. If you're into reading, I recommend the book The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, which is where I've gotten most of this information. It talks a lot about developmental trauma and what causes people to end up being diagnosed with things like BPD.

@LunarMoth also I'm pretty sure only 50% of bpd is connected to trauma

@LunarMoth "your disorder isn't real" is not usually a reassuring response

@AriEden Not saying it's not real, lol. I am diagnosed with BPD. Just saying it's not a very accurately named disorder and it literally does lack a lot of scientific validity. Worth doing research into

Listen to your psychiatrist, read about it, and get a therapist. I also listen to BPD to see how others deal with it.

@MangoNari I've just never been in a position like this before I've lost my relationship from all of this

@MangoNari thank you it's really scary

@Kaylah96 it was at first, and it is difficult to deal with, but it's not (always) as bad as some may make it seem.

To manage borderline personality disorder, it is recommended to seek professional help from a mental health professional who provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). DBT can help change thinking patterns and improve coping skills. Additionally, researching the disorder, joining support groups, and practicing deep breathing can also be helpful in managing symptoms. However, the exact cause of borderline personality disorder is not provided in the given context.
